LAndscape design

A garden pathway made of stepping stones, bordered by wood and stone walls, with green plants and trees surrounding it.

At Mindframe, landscape design isn’t something you add at the end—it’s part of the architecture.
The way a home reads from the street, and the way it feels from the backyard, is shaped by the landscape as much as the building itself. Retaining walls, patios, driveways, planting, lighting, and outdoor features all change how the home is perceived and experienced. That’s why we design the home and the landscape together from the start, and we do it in-house—with a single point of contact and no outsourcing.

We start by designing the entire environment around the home—front yard, backyard, and everything in between—so architecture and landscape feel like one unified composition. This is where we align on style and atmosphere: modern, Napa Valley, English garden, Zen/Japanese, lush and natural, or clean and minimal.

Hardscape is explored early because it strongly influences the overall look and site planning.
Elements like stone/retaining walls, stairs, patios, driveways, outdoor fireplaces, water features, pools, and planting beds aren’t accessories—they’re major design moves that shape the home’s presence and the way you live outdoors.

Concept and vision

Design documentation

Once the direction is clear, we produce the detailed drawings needed to build the landscape efficiently and correctly. Our documentation typically includes hardscape layouts, detailed planting plans, and irrigation plans coordinated with planting zones and long-term maintenance.

We love natural materials and plant-rich gardens. For a typical single-family home, it’s not uncommon for a project to include several thousand plants, from groundcovers and perennials to evergreens and specimen trees. Planting is selected and placed based on sun exposure, soil conditions, and water requirements—so the landscape looks great on day one and remains healthy over time.

To make decisions easier, we create highly realistic visuals—both 3D renderings and photo-collage style renderings—so you can actually see the outdoor spaces before anything is built.

Execution and delivery

We don’t just design landscapes—we build them. That matters, because the final result depends on thousands of small field decisions: elevations, alignments, stone selection, planting density, transitions, and finishing details.

By handling landscape construction in-house, we protect the design intent and eliminate the typical handoff problems between designer and contractor. Landscaping progresses alongside the home, at the same level of craftsmanship—so when you move in, the property is truly finished: architecture and outdoors completed together, not a “Phase Two” left for later.
